Esta exhibición reúne una serie de piezas que cuestionan y ponen en entredicho la lógica convencional de las tecnologías audiovisuales de grabación y reproducción. A partir de distintas estrategias, los artistas exploran, expanden o subvierten las posibilidades de la imagen en movimiento. Al mismo tiempo, el display de las obras que se despliegan en AYER —en tabletas, pantallas y proyecciones a muro— funciona como una primera incursión de esta iniciativa independiente por explorar las posibilidades de la producción audiovisual en relación con el espacio expositivo.

La muestra abre con obras de Fabiola Torres-Alzaga y Miguel Monroy donde el montaje y desmontaje de las imágenes —literal y metafórico— juega un papel central. Carolina Fusilier y Juan Pablo Villegas, por su parte, cuestionan las capacidades del sensorio humano con piezas de índole hipnótica que trastocan el transcurrir y la percepción espacio-temporal. Con el registro de acciones breves y cotidianas, que generan un efecto de extrañamiento, Ana Bidart e Iván Edeza interrogan la naturaleza de aquello que observamos en la pantalla. Finalmente, en un ejercicio repleto de juegos de miradas, donde se entrelazan la materia y la memoria, Sanaz Sohrabi y Daniel Monroy Cuevas exploran el aparato audiovisual a partir de ensayos sobre la vida de las imágenes y la historia de las tecnologías de la visión.

La selección de trabajos propicia sin embargo múltiples lecturas y diálogos cruzados, repletos de referencias intertextuales y reflexiones especulares, que se contraponen a la linealidad narrativa y las capacidades miméticas de las tecnologías audiovisuales. En conjunto, este proyecto reúne aproximaciones lúdicas e imaginativas a los fenómenos audiovisuales, enfrentadas al consumo desmedido y acrítico de imágenes emblemático del régimen escópico que caracteriza a nuestra contemporaneidad.

This exhibition brings together a series of artworks that question and challenge the conventional logic of audiovisual recording and reproduction technologies. Departing from different strategies, the artists explore, expand and subvert the possibilities of the moving image. Simultaneously, the artwork display presented in AYER –across tablets, screens and wall projections– function as a first incursion of this independent initiative into exploring the possibilities of audiovisual production in relation to the exhibition space.

The exhibition opens with works by Fabiola Torres-Alzaga and Miguel Monroy, where the assembly and disassembly of images –both literal and metaphoric– plays a central role. Carolina Fusilier and Juan Pablo Villegas, through their contributions, interrogate the capacities of the human sensorium with hypnotic artworks that disrupt the spatio-temporal flow and perception. With the documentation of brief and everyday actions that generate a feeling of estrangement, Ana Bidart and Iván Edeza question the nature of what is seen within the screen. Finally, in an exercise crowded with games of glances, where matter and memory are interweaved, Sanaz Sohrabi and Daniel Monroy Cuevas explore the audiovisual apparatus via the life of images and the history of vision technologies.

However, the selection of works encourages multiple readings and crossed dialogues, filled with intertextual references and specular reflections that oppose narrative linearity and the mimetic capacities of the audiovisual technologies. As a whole, this proyect brings together playful and imaginative approaches to audiovisual phenomena, confronted with the excessive and uncritical consumption of images that is emblematic of the scopic regime that characterises our contemporaneity.
